On 9 April 2026, a successful Haemostasis and Thrombosis Workshop was held at Hospital Ampang, Malaysia, in collaboration with Perth Blood Institute and the Malaysian Society of Patient Blood Management.
The workshop was organised to strengthen knowledge and clinical practice in haemostasis and thrombosis among healthcare professionals. Participants included house officers, medical officers, clinical haematology trainees, paediatric haemato-oncologists, rheumatologists, physicians, surgeons, haematopathology master’s students, medical laboratory technologists, scientific officers, and clinical nurses. A total of 120 participants attended, reflecting a strong interest in advancing multidisciplinary education in this important field.
The programme was conducted by Dr Mandy Yap Yee Yee (President of Malaysian Society of Patient Blood Management) and featured engaging sessions that encouraged active participation, thoughtful questions, and meaningful discussion throughout the day. The distinguished panel of speakers included Prof Dr Ross Baker, Miss Grace Gilmore, Dr Jameela Sathar, Miss Putri Astina, Dr Mandy Yap Yee Yee, and Dr Syaza Zafirah Binti Ab. Rahman, all of whom delivered valuable insights and fostered interactive learning.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to our industry partners whose support contributed significantly to the success of this event: All Eights Sdn Bhd (Stago), CSL Behring, and Pharmaniaga.
Following the workshop, a productive strategic discussion was held between Dr Jameela Sathar, Dr Lau Ngee Siang, Prof Dr Ross Baker, and Miss Grace Gilmore. Dr Kasuadi Bin Hussin, Director of Hospital Ampang, joined the meeting and expressed strong support for continued collaboration between both centres, particularly in advancing clinical and research haematology training. The discussion also highlighted the Regional Training Centre for Haemostasis and Thrombosis Fellowship, established in 2018, as well as future opportunities for international training attachments, including a potential short attachment at the Perth Blood Institute for Dr Syaza Zafirah Binti Ab. Rahman. Additional discussions were held with Dr Lily Wong Lee Lee (Head of Service for Clinical Haematology), Dr Haris Abdul Rahman (President of Malaysian Society of Haematology), and Prof Dr Gan Gin Gin (Former-President of Malaysian Society of Haematology), reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening specialist training and regional partnerships.
This workshop marks another meaningful step in building expertise, strengthening networks, and advancing excellence in haemostasis and thrombosis care in Malaysia and the region. We look forward to continuing this momentum. Stay tuned to our social media pages for upcoming workshops, educational events, and future collaborations.
