Advancing Blood Health Awareness: MyPBM Hosts First Blood Health Forum at Hospital Ampang
On Friday, 13 February 2026, MyPBM successfully hosted its first Blood Health Forum at Hospital Ampang to raise awareness about iron deficiency—one of the most common health conditions affecting Malaysians. Often overlooked, iron deficiency can lead to anaemia and is estimated to affect 1 in 5 Malaysians, highlighting the need for greater public awareness, early screening, and timely treatment.
The event was officiated by the Director-General of Health, Mahathar Abd Wahab, reflecting the national commitment of Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia to strengthen prevention strategies, encourage early detection, and improve the management of blood health across the country.
Engaging the Public Through Education and Screening
The forum featured a variety of multi-disciplinary stations and educational booths, providing members of the public with direct access to healthcare professionals and practical information about blood health. Activities included:
- Free blood health screenings to help individuals identify potential iron deficiency or anaemia
- Consultations with healthcare professionals, including dietitians, haematologists, and patient advocates
- Information on treatment options for iron deficiency, including a live demonstration of intravenous (IV) iron infusion
- Educational talks and forums focusing on shared decision-making, informed consent, and patient safety in healthcare
These initiatives aimed to empower individuals with the knowledge needed to recognise symptoms early and seek appropriate medical care.
Preview of Upcoming Clinical Practice Guidelines
A special highlight of the forum was a sneak preview of the upcoming Clinical Practice Guidelines on the Management of Iron Deficiency. The guidelines will introduce updated treatment pathways designed to support clinicians in delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based care for patients with iron deficiency and anaemia.
Strengthening Collaboration for Better Blood Health
The success of the Blood Health Forum was made possible through the collaboration of healthcare professionals, patient advocates, and institutional partners who share a common goal: improving blood health awareness and patient outcomes in Malaysia.
MyPBM remains committed to organising more initiatives alongside key stakeholders to promote early screening, informed treatment choices, and stronger public awareness of blood health.
As the forum’s message reminds us:
“Darah sihat, generasi sihat.”
